I've been to Guantanamo as a reporter. I have no idea what the "special briefing" they refer to could possibly be. On top of which, media and habeas counsel were staying at the same CBQ during the commission (now shut down) hearings and used to talk (and drink) together of an evening, often sharing information they had picked up - within the constraints of attorney-client privilege etc. The planes leaving from Andrews AFB to take journos and commission staff/lawyers for the commission hearings sometimes had NGO observers on them, so they too would have been privy to any special briefing...I think the expression you used in another context works will here...crock
I think "anonymous" may have missed the point. The fact that reporters shared some of what they witnessed in the CSRT and ARB proceedings is very nice but counsel should be allowed to view these ourselves. Especially when the proceedings involve our clients. I also understand from talking with other reporters that there are special "press" planes that do not include individuals that the government would not be comfortable with in hearing the briefings... probably that would mean that there would not be any NGO observers on those particular flights. They could include commission staff and lawyers because the government wouldn't necessarily care if they heard the propaganda.
To the anonymous person who claims to have been to Guantanamo as a reporter, were you really military posing as a reporter trying to entrap some of the innocent detainees?
