An Open Letter to My Senators (Obama and Durbin) on the so called "FISA Compromise"

As an attorney representing two men being held at Guantanamo I have been subjected to government surveillance of both my work and home phones. I take this so called "compromise" personally. Click on the title to see the letter that I have sent to my two senators... and please contact your representatives and senators this morning and tell them you oppose this bill strongly. Now.

The hearings involving the cases of Mohammed Jawad and Omar Khadr expose the injustices of Gitmo and the flaws of the commission. The two young men, originally detained while under the age of 18, are victims of torture and suffer from mental and physical distress. Despite their ages, the commission has no juvenile justice provision. The most appropriate question to examine, however, is why are CHILDREN being incarcerated without charge and being sent to secret detention centers?!

One of so many disturbing questions. I am afraid the answer is... because we can.
