Maybe we should consider ourselves fortunate that there is one Senator out there who gives a shit about things like the Constitution but it is depressing that this is the only one...Read this whole article to get a better understanding about how our government works these days....secret committee meetings- votes without discussion...this is supposed to be our government but the powers to be are keeping their work secret from us....and you have to ask yourself, who are they protecting? it ain't me, I can tell you that for sure...

A very astute question-- who are they protecting?
At this point, they [and their clients..., er, campaign contributors] are behaving as if they actually fear for their personal physical safety. "Occupy!" proved a very orderly, non-violent response to the outrageous social and economic order in which most Americans find themselves; needless to say, the very heavy-handed response to it was intended as a deterrent to other such "movements."
Thing is, GTMO was always pretty much the same thing: a beta-test of just how far The-Powers-That-Be could go-- to see when public outrage would stop them. Well, the silence of the public outrage has been duly deafening, and, hence, they have moved on to an infinite variety of domestic spying, domestic deployment of drones, and now, ON THE BOOKS, we have the NDAA and comparable executive orders that, basically, "codify" totalitarianism at any moment that the Executive (or executives at large banks, as the case may be) deem it appropriate to turn the abuses thus far officially heaped on a few swarthy furriners at GTMO (and millions of Iraqis, Afghans, Pakistanis, etc.)... on to our population.
Needless to say, as long as deliveries of gasoline and junk food aren't interrupted, and reality t.v. is still on the airwaves, our population won't put up much of a fight (and indeed, many of the peasants will gladly take employment firing at their countrymen). But, of course, should any of those things fail...
Best have the repressive measures in place ahead of time. Safety (of the ruling class) first.
I don't understand why the europeans don't give this women or the detainee a Nobel prize for peace? where is the voices that demand freedom and democracy now? where are all the think tank like the Albert Einstein institute that started riot for freedom in Burma and Ukraine? where is the riot for democracy in this case..o ya. thats right, democracy is just bull shit in the end. a pretext to invade a country for the oil and land for the rich white people. got it.
